EDUCATOR MEET AND GREET @ GENCON 2015!

GenCon-01

Update:  The last Educator event was at Gencon 2015. We have no plans to schedule a new one. However, I will be running several other highly engaging events. Click on "Coming Events" at the top of the page to view them.

Our first gathering in 2015 was a great success (42 people in the room)!

Hello everyone! We are two professors from the City University of New York, and we’re throwing a meet-and-greet at Gencon for teachers and game designers to chat about the wonder that is EDUCATIONAL GAMES.

Unlike Trade Day, there will be NO PRESENTATIONS at this event and NO FEE for this event. We only have one goal: to meet people doing interesting work with games in education!

We’ll even have a fun icebreaker to help us do just that. Let’s lead each other towards innovative ideas, educational games to try, and project collaborations.

(Not sure what the Gencon Games Convention is? Click here to find out.)

MEET & GREET RULES

Follow this checklist for maximum satisfaction:

1) Get a ticket (see below)

2) Join the email list (see below)

3) Bring your dice/stuff (see below)

4) Advertise this event!

GET A TICKET

If you don’t already have an event ticket, please obtain one (they’re free) so we can keep track of attendance and get an adequate room size. (If you decide to come at the last minute and you can’t get a ticket, we’ll let you in if there’s space.) Our focus is on K-12 and college educators, but if you’re game designer or manager interested in this field, come on by!

Title: Educator and Game Designer Meet & Greet

Date and Time: Thursday @ 1-2pm

Event Number: #SEM1693921

Room: To be announced. At the moment they have us at Union Station building, room Grand Hall SE, but this could change; please check the location by looking up the event number during the convention.

JOIN THE EMAIL LIST

So in order to keep track of the attendees, we’re creating an announcement-only email list (you can unsubscribe anytime) through Google groups. A reminder email will go out a few days before the event, then again before the following year’s Gencon, so about 2-4 emails/year total. Please take a moment to join now. Please take a moment to join now by sending a blank email from your preferred address to:

GenconEdListSubscribe-Transparent

You may unsubscribe from this email list anytime by sending a blank email to:

GenconEdListUnsubscribe-Transparent

If you have a Google account/email, you should also be able to log into our Google group directly, in which case we have another favor to ask: do you mind listing your profession in parentheses next to your Google group display name? This will help us better serve everyone. Click here for instructions on how to do this.

BRING YOUR DICE/STUFF

Well we don’t really need your dice, but feel free to bring flyers, business cards, etc. to leave on our information table. (Yay information!) Remember that the focus is on educational games at all levels. If you have a subject-specific educational game for free or for sale, bring those too. We’ll have a card game that Joe designed which teaches instructors how to turn lessons into games.

Now, advertise this event!! The more, the merrier. Send this page address to all interested lists and parties.

Note: This event is not affiliated with Gencon’s Trade Day.

OTHER COOL EVENTS AT GENCON

What’s Your Game Plan?

Joe is running a free, hands-on seminar on how to turn your teaching lessons (or any ideas) into games. We’ll be making real games the whole time!

Title: “Turn Your Idea into a Game or Simulation in Less than 30’ With Game Theory & What’s Your Game Plan?”

Date and Time: Thursday @ 3pm-4pm

Event Number: ??

You’ll notice there’s a similar event on Sun @ 10am-11:30am under event number ??. This is a special longer event (which is not free) for people who really want to get into the game theory, more feedback from Joe, and have less rushed conversations, since the group size will be kept to a maximum of 12 (we anticipate 50-100 people at the free event).
